Crossing Borders from Border to Border

'Crossing Borders from Border to Border' was a practice project marched from October 2000 through to April 2001. The Academic Walking Society marched from Emmerich to Katwijk in that period, right through Nederland, along the old northern border of the Imperium Romanum (Roman Empire), the Limes, formed by what are now the Oude (or 'old') and Kromme (or 'curved') Rhine.

The Wandelsoc. covered this distance in 5 stages that, since then, are part of the regular practice curriculum in preparation of the official marching season. On the 29th of October 2000 the Wandelsoc. set off from the German Emmerich in western direction; on the 29th of April 2001 the Wandelsoc. reached the sea, at the mouth of the Rhine, in Katwijk.
